Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has officially resumed his duties at the club’s training centre following a recovery period after being hospitalized with pneumonia, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.
The 47-year-old coach was admitted to hospital earlier in the month, forcing him to miss crucial league fixtures against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa. During his absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall took charge, overseeing back-to-back wins over United and Palace, before the team suffered a heavy defeat to Aston Villa.
In a statement, Newcastle United expressed their delight at Howe’s return:
“Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club’s training centre. Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery. We thank supporters for their warm wishes.”
Currently sitting fifth in the Premier League standings, the Magpies are keen to maintain their pursuit of Champions League qualification. They recently lifted the League Cup and now look ahead to their upcoming home match against struggling Ipswich on Saturday, aiming to bounce back and regain momentum.
With Liverpool edging closer to securing the Premier League title and Arsenal strong contenders for second place, the race for the remaining European spots remains tight. Only four points separate third-placed Manchester City from seventh-placed Aston Villa, leaving little room for error among the top contenders.
