Bakare Cautioned Tinubu Against “Playing God,” Urges Humility Amidst National Drift

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu, cautioning him against adopting a godlike attitude in governance. Delivering a “State of the Nation” address on Sunday at the church’s auditorium in Ikeja, Lagos, Bakare criticized the current direction of the administration, asserting that it is leading the nation astray.

In his message, Bakare openly urged President Tinubu to govern with greater humility. “Stop playing God,” he declared, emphasizing that although he fundamentally disagrees with Tinubu’s leadership style, he harbors no desire for the President to fail. Rather, he expressed a hope that Tinubu would adjust his approach for the betterment of the country.

Bakare stressed that his remarks were not intended as a condemnation but as a corrective guide, aimed at encouraging a more effective and democratic leadership. He lamented the weakening of Nigeria’s legislature under Tinubu’s watch, describing it as a troubling development for the nation’s democracy.

The cleric also criticized the National Assembly’s decision to suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, suggesting that her suspension stemmed from her efforts to demand accountability. He called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to publicly justify the move and to uphold principles of transparency and democratic integrity.
