On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu joined other prominent leaders and citizens in sending goodwill messages to Nigerians in anticipation of the celebration of Christmas, a sacred occasion that marks the birth of Jesus Christ, observed by Christians around the world.

In a personally signed message, President Tinubu extended his warm greetings to Nigerian Christians, encouraging them to reflect on the spirit of Christmas while praying for the country’s leaders to guide them in their service to the nation. He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their prayers for the country’s prosperity and for the courage of troops dedicated to securing the nation.

The president expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, reassuring citizens that the country was making steady progress on the path toward a brighter and more prosperous future for all. Additionally, he sympathized with families who suffered losses from natural disasters, fires, and accidents during the year 2024.

The President’s Christmas Message

In his statement, Tinubu said, “Dear fellow Nigerians, on this joyous Christmas Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to Christians across Nigeria and the world as we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, a significant event narrated in the Holy Scriptures.

“He highlighted the deeper meaning of Christmas, describing it as a celebration of the fulfillment of divine prophecy and a symbol of love, peace, and unity. The season, he said, is a reminder of the triumph of light over darkness and offers hope and solace even in challenging times. According to him, this universal message resonates with people of all faiths and is a testament to God’s enduring presence in the lives of humanity.

Reflecting on recent tragedies in Ibadan, Okija, and Abuja, Tinubu expressed deep sadness and extended his condolences to the victims and their families. “We earnestly pray that such misfortunes will not revisit our families or communities. May the lives of innocents never again be tragically cut short,” he added.

The president also sympathized with families affected by various forms of adversity, such as floods, fires, and road accidents, assuring them of divine comfort and the enduring presence of Jesus Christ. “God, in His compassion and mercy, stands with the weak, the broken-hearted, and the sick,” he stated.

A Call to Compassion and Kindness

Tinubu called on Nigerians to be mindful of those facing challenges, emphasizing that acts of kindness, no matter how small, can have a profound impact. He urged citizens to extend love and support to those in need, whether they are neighbors, family members, or strangers encountered in daily life.

“Kindness transcends financial status,” he remarked. “A smile or a word of encouragement can uplift anyone, whether they are of modest means or great wealth.” He also acknowledged the sacrifices of the country’s armed forces, commending their bravery and urging Nigerians to keep them in their prayers and offer unwavering support.

Prayers for Leaders and the Nation

Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to also pray for their leaders, emphasizing that their backing is essential for leaders to serve diligently and strive for the nation’s progress.

Reflecting on the country’s journey so far, he noted, “Nigeria is on a promising path of restoration and progress. There are clear indications of a brighter future for us all. In this spirit of the season, let us renew our hope and belief in a prosperous Nigeria.”

Yuletide Travel and Support Measures

The president also shared a message for those traveling during the festive season, wishing them safe journeys. He assured citizens that the government had put measures in place to secure transportation routes and make travel as convenient as possible.To ease travel burdens, he announced free train services and subsidized road transport costs on 144 routes nationwide.

Closing his message, Tinubu said, “Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a joyous and prosperous New Year.”

Other Prominent Felicitations

Several notable figures also extended their Christmas greetings to Christians. These included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and governors such as Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara State), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State), and Peter Mbah (Enugu State).

Additionally, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, APGA National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu joined in celebrating the occasion.

The collective messages from Nigeria’s leaders highlighted themes of hope, unity, and compassion, urging Nigerians to embrace the true spirit of Christmas.
