Please Don’t Increase Price Of Food Stuffs This Christmas – Tinubu’s Wife, Oluremi Begs Market Women

Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria and wife of President Bola Tinubu, has called on Nigerian market women to avoid increasing food prices as the festive season approaches.

She made this appeal while addressing women in Ebonyi State during the 2024 Women’s Day Celebration held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki.

In a statement released by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the importance of fairness in pricing, particularly during the Yuletide season. “With the festive period fast approaching, the First Lady appealed to market women to refrain from unfairly hiking the prices of food items during this period,” the statement read.

During her visit to Ebonyi State, Mrs. Tinubu also inaugurated a newly constructed 3.1-kilometer runway at the Wilberforce Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Onueke. She highlighted the runway’s potential to drive socio-economic development in the state, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s capacity to become a great nation.

Speaking with Ebonyi traditional rulers, she remarked, “Nigeria has everything it takes for us to be a great nation.”The First Lady praised Governor Francis Nwifuru for his commitment to gender inclusivity, commending him for surpassing the 35% benchmark for female representation in political appointments.

Additionally, she announced the governor’s initiative to support 130 businesses in the state with N1 million each.

Mrs. Tinubu also revealed her contributions through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). She announced the donation of N50 million, along with 20,000 wrappers, shoes, and bags, to empower women entrepreneurs in Ebonyi State.

“As RHI, we did not come empty-handed. We are donating a sum of N50 million, 20,000 wrappers, shoes, and bags to support women engaged in such businesses within this state,” she said.
