Ogun State Launches 250-Bed Specialist Hospital, Operations To Start March 2025 – Governor Abiodun

The Ogun State Government has officially handed over a 250-bed state-owned hospital, located along the Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta, to Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited and OAN African Capital Holdings.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, who presided over the handover, announced that the hospital is slated to begin partial operations in March 2025, with full operations expected by mid-year, around June 2025.

This hospital, a specialist facility initially launched as part of the previous administration under Ibikunle Amosun, was about 65 percent complete at the time of transfer. Once fully operational, it is envisioned to deliver high-quality, world-class health services to citizens.

Governor Abiodun explained that, “This hospital will meet the specific healthcare needs of our population, with a planned partial opening in March 2025 and a full rollout by June.” He underscored the administration’s dedication to ensuring that this advanced medical facility will effectively serve Ogun State residents.

The concession partnership follows months of intense negotiations and strategic planning, according to the governor, marking a significant milestone in Ogun State’s healthcare development. Viewpoint Health Management Services, partnering with HealthShare South Africa—a reputable hospital management company—is tasked with completing the remaining construction work, acquiring additional necessary equipment, staffing, and overseeing operations in accordance with international healthcare standards.

Unlike the original 250-bed setup, the facility will undergo reconfiguration by Viewpoint, which will add other essential elements to transform the hospital into a world-class healthcare provider. Per the contract terms, Viewpoint Health Management Services will complete the remaining civil works, install advanced medical equipment, and manage the facility for an agreed period to ensure its sustained operational success.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that the hospital will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and advanced healthcare facilities. Designed to be a referral center for medical research, training, and innovation, it will also collaborate with the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, managed by King’s College Hospital, which is anticipated to launch in the first quarter of 2025.

The governor expressed confidence that this new facility would substantially reduce the need for Nigerians to travel abroad for medical treatment, thereby conserving foreign exchange. He also noted that the hospital would provide a solid foundation for long-term growth in both Ogun State and Nigeria’s broader healthcare system.
