The Southwest Zone of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has elected Alhaji Musliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, as the National President of the union. This decision was made during the union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference held at the Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State, where delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti States actively participated.

The election process was observed by the acting National President of the union, Aliyu Issa-Ore, who emphasized that the union’s constitution designates the Southwest Zone to produce the National President at this time.

Following this provision, the zone elected MC Oluomo and officially presented him to the National Secretariat. Representing the union’s National Headquarters from Abuja, Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance, affirmed that the Southwest Zone complied fully with constitutional guidelines in electing MC Oluomo as President.

In addition to MC Oluomo’s appointment, the conference also elected Tajudeen Agbede as the Vice President for the Southwest Zone and Akeem Adeosun as a trustee from the same zone.

After being sworn in, MC Oluomo addressed union members, calling for peace and unity within the NURTW. He expressed a desire to move forward without any personal grievances, stating, “I have forgiven everyone who may have offended me, and I hope those I may have wronged will also forgive me.”

Stressing the importance of unity, he added, “This is our union, and we must be dedicated to its preservation. We will not allow anyone to jeopardize our means of livelihood.”
