Police Arrest Woman In Enugu For Maltreating Three Year-Old Stepson Who’s Mother Is Now Late, Breaking His Bone With Pestle

The Enugu State Government has swiftly intervened in the case of Mrs. Ada Ogbogu, who allegedly assaulted her three-year-old stepson, causing him severe injuries with a pestle. The incident has sparked widespread concern, prompting authorities to act decisively.

On Saturday, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, announced that Mrs. Ogbogu, a resident of Sunrise Estate in Emene, Enugu metropolis, had been taken into custody.

Mrs. Enih emphasized that the state’s rapid response reflects its strong commitment to protecting children and preventing child abuse.

“This prompt action highlights the government’s zero-tolerance stance on child mistreatment,” the Commissioner said. “The arrest of Mrs. Ogbogu is a clear signal that such inhumane acts will face legal consequences, as Enugu State is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of its young citizens.”

Mrs. Enih explained that the government was alerted to the situation through a whistleblower channel on Friday. Acting quickly, she coordinated with the police to search for the suspect. Although Mrs. Ogbogu was not at her residence, the authorities located her at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu, where she was promptly apprehended after consulting with hospital officials.

During their visit, government representatives also met with the medical team treating the young boy, who had suffered a broken femur, or thigh bone. “It is heartbreaking to witness such cruelty towards children,” Mrs. Enih remarked.

“Enugu State has a strict policy against any form of child abuse, and Governor Peter Mbah has made it clear that this administration will hold offenders accountable. This case will be no exception.”

The Commissioner further disclosed that the wife of the governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, is personally involved in the case. Deeply affected by the situation, she has pledged to ensure justice is served and has promised that the young boy will receive all necessary medical care to aid his recovery.
