President Bola Tinubu has formally written to the Senate, requesting the screening and subsequent confirmation of seven newly appointed ministerial nominees.
This announcement was made in Abuja on Wednesday. Tinubu’s request was conveyed through a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, which was read during Thursday’s plenary session.
The nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, who has been proposed as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, nominated as the Minister of Labour and Employment.
Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been nominated for the position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole is nominated for the role of Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development; Idi Muktar Maiha is set for the Ministry of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata is nominated as Minister of State for Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad is slated for the position of Minister of State for Education.
In his letter, President Tinubu requested the Senate to expedite the review and approval process for these nominees. In response, Senate President Akpabio referred the presidential request to the Senate’s Committee of the Whole for prompt consideration.
Akpabio stated, “Distinguished colleagues, the presidential request is referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration very soon.”
Since the request arrived on the Senate’s last sitting day of the week, it is anticipated that, after receiving all necessary documentation on the nominees, the Senate may begin their screening process on the following Wednesday.
