The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, has strongly condemned the tragic cult-related killings that occurred in Nibo, within Awka South Local Government Area, on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
In an official statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Tony Olisa Mbeki Ogbonna, Barr. Ezeokenwa expressed deep sorrow over the senseless violence. He extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, offering them comfort and support during this painful time. He denounced the killings as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” emphasizing that such acts of violence have no place in a civil society.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have tragically lost their loved ones in this horrific incident. No community should have to endure the fear and suffering brought on by violence. We must unite in our efforts to eliminate the scourge of cultism from our society,” the APGA Chairman declared.
Barr. Ezeokenwa called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly in investigating the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice. He stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The APGA leader also urged community leaders to collaborate closely with security networks established by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, in order to enhance vigilance and prevent further acts of violence.
“The security architecture developed under Governor Soludo’s administration provides a solid framework for effective community participation in crime prevention. I urge all communities to fully utilize these networks to safeguard peace and safety,” Ezeokenwa added.
He further reiterated APGA’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace and stability throughout the state, cautioning that incidents of cult-related violence threaten the significant progress that has been made under Governor Soludo’s leadership. He reaffirmed that Anambra State is on a path toward becoming a secure and prosperous region, and the government, along with its people, will not allow such acts of violence to derail that progress.
Ezeokenwa also made a heartfelt appeal to parents, youth organizations, and community leaders, urging them to actively discourage cultism by promoting positive activities and encouraging productive engagement among young people.
“Our youths must be steered towards constructive endeavors, not destructive paths. By working together, we can ensure a brighter future for Anambra State,” the National Chairman concluded.
