The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky. In a press statement released on Monday night, the NIS disclosed that Bobrisky is currently undergoing interrogation.
The statement further revealed that Bobrisky would soon be transferred to the appropriate authorities for a thorough investigation related to a series of allegations against him.
According to the release: “In line with its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) apprehended Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border while attempting to leave the country.”
The Service wishes to inform the public that OKUNEYE IDRIS is a person of interest due to recent matters of public concern. He is currently being interrogated and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.”
The Service reiterates its commitment to acting with civility and professionalism while fulfilling its responsibility of protecting the nation’s borders.”
Earlier reports had surfaced, indicating that Bobrisky was detained on Monday morning as he attempted to flee to the Benin Republic.
A source within the Immigration Service, speaking to SaharaReporters, revealed that Bobrisky was apprehended during a passport check at the Seme-Nigerian border.
The arrest came just hours before Bobrisky was expected to appear before a Senate panel of inquiry in connection to allegations raised against him. Reports suggest that he was attempting to evade questioning by the Senate through his attempted departure.
