The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a statement regarding the prolonged delay experienced by the Nigerian national football team at a Libyan airport.
For over 15 hours, the Super Eagles players and officials were left stranded at Al Abraq International Airport without access to food, water, or the internet. The team and its staff were eventually able to leave Libya, but they will not participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier that was scheduled for Tuesday (tomorrow).
CAF has now referred the incident to its Disciplinary Board for a thorough investigation.
In an official statement, CAF confirmed that it had been in contact with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities after learning that the Nigerian national team and its technical staff were stranded in what it described as “disturbing conditions” at an airport in Libya, allegedly on the instruction of Libyan authorities.
The CAF statement emphasized that the matter has been escalated to its Disciplinary Board, which will investigate the situation and take appropriate actions against those found to have breached CAF’s statutes and regulations.
