BREAKING NEWS: Residents In Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Abuja Other States To Stay In Darkness, Without Electricity As National Grid Collapses Again

The national electricity grid has suffered another collapse, as confirmed by The NewdayReporters. The collapse occurred around 6:18 p.m. on Monday, plunging many areas of Nigeria into darkness.

Our investigation revealed that power generation had decreased from 3.87 gigawatts at 5:00 p.m. to 3.56 gigawatts by 6:00 p.m., eventually dropping to 0.00 gigawatts at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the grid collapse in an official statement issued on Monday evening. The company informed its customers of a “general system collapse” that occurred at 6:48 p.m. on the 14th of October, 2024. As a result, the EEDC stated that power supply across its entire network had been disrupted.

The EEDC explained that all their interface stations connected to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) were without power, affecting service delivery to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.

The company is currently on standby, awaiting further details from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo regarding the cause of the collapse and updates on when power will be restored.

This was confirmed in a statement signed by Emeka Ezeh, the EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications.

Similarly, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) issued a notice, stating, “Dear Valued Customer, please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 6:58 p.m. today, affecting the power supply to our franchise areas.”

The company assured customers that they are collaborating with relevant authorities to restore electricity once the grid has stabilized, and expressed gratitude for customers’ understanding.
