President Bola Tinubu is preparing to reshuffle his cabinet, indicating forthcoming changes in the leadership of key ministries. This development was revealed during a press briefing at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Onanuga highlighted the President’s concern over the existing communication gap between ministries and the general public. Despite significant progress made across various sectors, many Nigerians remain unaware of the government’s achievements due to insufficient media engagement by the ministries.
“The President has directed ministers to be more proactive in communicating the activities and accomplishments of their ministries,” Onanuga stated. He emphasized that the upcoming cabinet reshuffle aims to reposition the government to better meet the needs of Nigerians. Onanuga also urged ministers to overcome their reluctance to engage with the media.
“The President has expressed his intention to reshuffle his cabinet, and he will do it. While I cannot confirm whether this will happen before October 1st, the reshuffle is definitely on the agenda. However, the President has not provided a specific timeline,” Onanuga added.
Reflecting on the performance of the administration, Onanuga explained that at the recent Federal Executive Council meeting, President Tinubu instructed all ministers to actively engage the public regarding the government’s activities. He noted that some ministers have been hesitant to speak with the media, whether it be on television or radio, but the President has made it clear that they must overcome this reluctance.
“The perception among the public is that the government is not doing enough, but the reality is that a lot has been accomplished,” Onanuga continued. “It is now up to the ministers to go out and publicize the work being done by their ministries. They need to speak about their achievements and address the concerns of Nigerians.”
Onanuga reiterated that the administration has made considerable progress, but the lack of communication has left many unaware of the positive changes. He emphasized the importance of ministers stepping forward to highlight their efforts and accomplishments as part of the President’s directive to increase transparency and public awareness of government actions.
