Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced a significant change to the work schedule for public servants, aimed at reducing their transportation expenses. This decision involves reducing the number of workdays required each week for different categories of public servants.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, which was made available in Osogbo on Tuesday, it was revealed that this adjustment was communicated through a circular from the Office of the Head of Service. The initiative reflects Adeleke’s dedication to the welfare of workers and is a response to the ongoing economic challenges facing the country.
According to the circular, the new work schedule will be implemented as follows: public servants on Grade Level 01 to Grade Level 10 will work three days a week, while those on Grade Level 12 to Grade Level 17 will work four days a week. It is important to note that this new arrangement does not apply to employees in essential services, such as medical staff, security personnel, political office holders, and accounting officers.
The circular also specifies that the arrangement regarding which specific days each public servant will work will be determined by the accounting officers within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
In addition to the revised work schedule, Governor Adeleke has also approved the continuation of palliative payments for public servants in the state for the next two months. This extension of payments is intended to support employees until the new minimum wage is implemented.
The statement emphasized that all accounting officers across Ministries, Departments, and government agencies, including Local Governments, are required to comply with these directives.
