Israel Adesanya, a mixed martial artist with New Zealander-Nigerian heritage and former UFC welterweight champion, recently made controversial remarks about women in Lagos.
In a video shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Adesanya claimed that a significant number of women in Lagos are “runs girls,” a local slang term for call girls.
He criticized them for flaunting their lifestyles, which he alleged are funded by money earned through prostitution. Adesanya urged these women to adopt a friendlier and more approachable demeanor, rather than constantly showing off.
Speaking in a mix of English and Yoruba, he expressed his views by saying, “Lagos women love showing off. Most of you are runs girls, kobo kobo, ashewo. You keep posing and showing off. Nonsense. Just be nice, be friendly, say hi.”
