HAPPENING NOW: IPOB Demands Referendum, Says Igbos Ready To Leave Nigeria
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly condemned the “IgboMustGo” campaign in the South-Western region of Nigeria, calling it a “genocidal” and “provocative” move.
The group accused the authorities in the South-West of treating the campaign with a “wave of the hand” and urged them to take immediate action to address the issue.
IPOB Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, stated that the Igbo people are ready to exit Nigeria via a referendum, adding that they will not succumb to threats from any group or persons to leave any state or region.
He accused the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government of sponsoring the “IgboMustGo” campaign, citing the demolition of Igbo businesses and properties in Lagos State as evidence.
Powerful emphasized that the Igbo people are not moved by threats and have made up their minds to exit Nigeria.
He called on President Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and organize a referendum for the Igbo people to decide between Biafra and Nigeria.
The statement also highlighted the ongoing “EndBadGovernance” protest in Nigeria, which IPOB claimed was organized by Yoruba and Fulani to lure Igbo people into destruction.
Powerful warned that the scenario that led to the genocidal war against Biafrans in 1967-1970 is rearing its ugly head, with Igbo people facing existential threats from both the Western and Northern regions.
IPOB called on the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations to take note of the existential threat against Igbo people in Nigeria, emphasizing that silencing the quest for Biafra referendum is indirectly supporting genocide against Igbo people.
The group concluded by stating that they are not interested in calls for the arrest of the “IgboMustGo” criminal elements, as they know nothing will happen to them.
Instead, they advised the Yoruba people to channel their energy into convincing President Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and schedule a date for Biafra Referendum.
