Despite Hardship, Hunger Governor Otti To Demolish Multi-billion Naira Government House
kAbia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced plans to demolish the newly built multi-billion naira Government House in Umuahia, the state capital, despite the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
The governor, who was elected in March 2023, has been operating from his private residence in his village, citing the need to save costs.
He claims that the new Government House, commissioned by his predecessor, Okezie Ikpeazu, was hurriedly completed and requires significant funds to be put in order.
However, his decision to demolish the building and construct a new one has raised questions about the use of public funds, especially given the state’s significant debt burden and the economic challenges faced by the country.
The planned demolition is expected to take place before the end of the year, with the governor promising to build a more befitting structure for the state.
