President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and has committed to reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years.
In addition to this commitment, President Tinubu also expressed his intention to support both the private sector and sub-national governments in meeting the minimum wage requirements.
These announcements were made during a meeting with leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) held on Thursday in Abuja. This marked the second meeting between the parties within a week.
The labor leaders praised President Tinubu for his considerate approach. During the meeting, the President also pledged to use his discretionary powers to address the demands of university unions regarding their unpaid salaries from the past four months.
