Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to be fair to President Bola Tinubu, noting that no economy in the world is free from challenges. Addressing concerns about Tinubu’s health, Shettima emphasized that the president is full of ideas and capable of leading the country.
This defense follows an incident during the Democracy Day celebration last month when President Tinubu missed his steps, sparking discussions about his health. However, during a town hall meeting by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja on Friday, Shettima dismissed these health concerns as mischievous.
“We are not asking you to avoid questioning the president’s health condition, but there is a mischievous narrative surrounding it,” Shettima stated at the event, urging Nigerians to support Tinubu’s administration.
“We are not preparing for the Olympics but building an institution based on the superiority of ideas. The hallmark of true leadership is not the physical ability to lift a bag of cement, but the intellectual capacity to develop robust solutions to national problems. This is a man we need to rally around and support.”
Shettima acknowledged the economic difficulties facing Nigeria but stressed that these challenges are not unique to the country. “Yes, our economy is experiencing turbulence, but is it confined to Nigeria alone? Let’s look at the global picture. Is any economy immune from the challenges of the times? I urge you to be fair to this man.”
“We have never had it so good in terms of leadership. The President means well for the nation and possesses the skill set to drive change and progress in this country,” Shettima continued. “I can tell you with all confidence that our current President is a man of ideas and competence. Leadership is about competence.”
