Sophia Momodu, the mother of Nigerian singer Davido’s child, has accused him of pressuring her for sex despite his public relationship with Chioma.
These allegations emerged shortly after Davido initiated legal action to obtain joint custody of their daughter, Imade.
The allegations are detailed in a statement dated June 22, 2024, released by Momodu’s legal representatives, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co. This statement was exclusively obtained by Pulse Nigeria.
According to the statement, Momodu and Davido were in a relationship from 2014 to 2017 and then again from 2020 to 2022.
During these times, Davido financially supported their daughter, covering essential expenses such as school fees, rent, and other living costs.
Momodu alleges that since their breakup in July 2022, Davido has been harassing her for sexual favors. The statement from her legal team reads: “Since then, David has repeatedly threatened to make Sophia’s life miserable if she does not make herself available to him sexually.”
The statement also points out that Davido has not had contact with their daughter since July 2022, despite Momodu not denying him access. He has missed significant events in their daughter’s life, including birthdays and Christmases.
Her lawyers emphasize, “Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter. He has not reached out on special occasions such as her birthday or Christmas for the past two years, which has left his daughter distressed and questioning why her father has cut contact with her.”
Momodu claims that since their breakup, Davido has failed to pay their daughter’s school fees, leading to repeated contacts from the school. Eventually, Davido’s father, Adedeji Adeleke, had to step in to settle the outstanding fees.
The statement adds, “David has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, leaving her school fees unpaid.”
Since the breakup, Momodu has borne the financial burden alone, covering rent, living costs, healthcare, and other expenses for their daughter. Despite these challenges, she attempted to establish a formal co-parenting arrangement two years ago, but these efforts were allegedly rebuffed by Davido and his legal team.
Her lawyers note, “Two years ago, Sophia initiated efforts through her legal team to establish a formal co-parenting arrangement with David. But he and his lawyers have consistently refused to cooperate toward a mutually agreeable resolution.
Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with.”
The statement concludes by stating that Momodu wishes Davido well in his public relationship and has refrained from further comment. “David is in a publicly known relationship, and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse. Sophia refrains from further comment as the matter has escalated into a legal dispute,” her lawyers state.
Despite Davido frequently referring to Chioma as his wife and suggesting they may already be legally married, they are still anticipated to hold a formal wedding ceremony soon.
