1 YEAR IN OFFICE: Nigeria Was Bleeding When I Came To Power, Now Things Have Changed, It’s No Longer Bleeding – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu announced on Friday that his administration has halted Nigeria’s metaphorical bleeding and is now addressing remaining challenges head-on. He asserted that the past 12 months have been fulfilling despite the difficulties encountered.

During a meeting with a delegation of Yoruba Leaders of Thought at the State House, President Tinubu emphasized the necessity of a transformative approach to governance that meets citizens’ essential needs.

He advocated for a more effective local government system to foster community development and deliver essential governance within a strengthened federal structure.

“It has been challenging but also fulfilling. We took over and have stopped the bleeding. I can now say categorically that Nigeria is no longer bleeding. It will not bleed to death; instead, it will move towards prosperity. This is the promise I made and the charge you gave me,” said Tinubu.

He acknowledged the difficulties but assured that his administration is making progress, navigating through challenges, and committed to turning the tide. “The worst is over for Nigeria. We will prevail. I thank the team who have been working very hard. We will do whatever it takes to ensure that all Nigerians feel the impact of good governance,” he said.

Tinubu assured that his administration would ensure Nigerians receive value for every kobo spent and that his government aims to leave a lasting legacy of prosperity, removing the yoke of poor governance and expanding access to quality public goods.

“We will get value for our money, not for ourselves, but for our children. They will not inherit the burden of bad governance but will enjoy the prosperity of Nigeria as a blessed nation from our efforts. We will bequeath to them a nation full of pride and prosperity,” Tinubu stated.

The President also stressed the importance of deepening governance and strengthening leadership across all government levels and institutions. His administration is committed to encouraging fiscal federalism and enhancing the system to ensure inclusion and equity for all Nigerians.

“Healthcare upgrades are ongoing. Road rehabilitation and construction are ongoing. Education development is ongoing. I urge you to pay attention to your state governors and ensure they take their responsibilities seriously, focusing on development plans that benefit the people. With synergy, Nigeria will become one of the best nations on earth,” Tinubu said.

He criticized any attempts to centralize local government responsibilities under the federal government, calling such efforts criminal. He highlighted the importance of states managing their own administrative processes and adhering to fiscal federalism principles.

“Our population is growing, requiring more space for housing. We must remain flexible at the local government level to accommodate this growth. This is the basis for the flexibility we need,” the President explained.

Tinubu thanked the delegation of eminent Nigerians, urging continuous support and faith in Nigeria, and assured them his government would meet their expectations.

“Nigeria is no longer deceiving itself by printing paper money without a survival base. The country has gone through tough times, but we are seeing positive outcomes,” Tinubu concluded.

Honourable Bayo Aina, speaking on behalf of Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, Convener of the Yoruba Leaders of Thought, commended the President for prioritizing investment in infrastructure across various sectors.

“We salute your timely initiative to upgrade, construct, and modernize infrastructure in health, aviation, transportation, and education.

We commend your commitment to responsible, responsive, and accountable governance.

We fully support your vision for Nigeria’s greatness, not just within Africa but globally, by the end of the 21st century,” Aina concluded.
