The governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, declared that his administration is not focused on distributing funds indiscriminately. He emphasized that at the conclusion of his tenure, he would willingly subject himself to an audit.
Dr. Otti made these remarks yesterday during a town hall meeting held in Ohafia, the headquarters of Abia North Senatorial District. This event was part of the activities marking his first year in office on May 29.
He cautioned his aides and all members of his administration to be mindful of their actions while in office, as they too would be required to account for their stewardship.
Addressing the residents of Ohafia, Bende, Arochukwu, Umunneochi, and Isuikwuato local government areas, Dr. Otti stated that the state’s resources would henceforth be utilized for the benefit of the state.
He highlighted a significant shift from previous practices where funds from the federation allocation and internal resources were distributed directly to individuals at the end of each month.
“A lot of people resist change, but this is nothing to worry about,” he said. “This government is here to implement changes.”
Dr. Otti noted that the town hall meeting provided him with the opportunity to hear firsthand about the challenges faced by the people. He assured them of his administration’s commitment to addressing these issues.
He also commended the people for their support during the election campaign and their significant turnout at the event, which is the first in a series of such meetings planned for the three senatorial districts of the state.
In a speech delivered by Chief David Ogba, the local government leaders expressed their gratitude to the governor for his bold initiatives aimed at revitalizing the state’s economy.
They appreciated the town hall meeting as a valuable platform for direct interaction between the governor and the people and pledged their continued support for his administration’s efforts to elevate the state to greater heights.
