Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, has announced a plan to organize the marriage of 100 female orphans in the state.
He expressed concern about the growing number of female orphans due to banditry activities, particularly in the Mariga Local Government Area.
Sarkindaji, who represents the Mariga State Constituency, intends to pay the dowries for the bridegrooms as part of his constituency project.
Addressing reporters in Minna, the capital of Niger State, Sarkindaji revealed that the marriage ceremony is scheduled for May 24 in Bangi, the headquarters of the Mariga Local Government Area. He stated that all necessary materials for the ceremony have been procured.
The 100 girls to be married were carefully selected from 170 whose names were submitted.
Sarkindaji described the initiative as part of his constituency empowerment project, aimed at alleviating the suffering of the impoverished.
He also mentioned that the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau, would serve as guardians to the female orphans during the mass marriage ceremony.
Additionally, the Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, is expected to attend the ceremony.
