Chief Chukwuemeka Nkem Pat Orjiakor, CEO of Stelconic Properties Limited and a prominent member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka South, has advised Governor Soludo on the importance of carefully selecting competent individuals for the constitution of local government council members.
Speaking in an interview with NewdayReporters, Chief Orjiakor urged Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to ensure that only capable and dedicated individuals, who can protect the party’s interests in the upcoming gubernatorial election, are appointed.
According to Chief Orjiakor, the positions within the local government councils are crucial for the party’s success in the forthcoming election and must be filled by competent individuals.
He expressed concern about the possibility of infiltration by opposition party members or incompetent persons lacking the requisite capacity to safeguard the party’s interests.
According to him, “The governor must personally look into the constitution of the local government councils to prevent infiltration from other parties.
“We cannot afford to repeat past mistakes where individuals nominated their friends and cronies, who had little or no political value, for important grassroots positions, while sidelining core party members who have demonstrated competence, dedication, and commitment to the party over the years.”
Chief Orjiakor emphasized the need for the governor and party leadership to prioritize competence and acceptability in the selection process.
He urged them to choose individuals from the grassroots who have the capacity to unite their wards and attract non-party members to galvanize support for the governor in the 2025 elections.
He further said, “It is a disgrace to have a TC Chairman or a Commissioner from a Local Government who cannot deliver their LGA in a Governorship Election. How can a TC Chairman or Commissioner be talking about winning their ward in a Governorship Election?” He queried.
“The governor must prioritize competence and acceptability.” He concluded
A circular obtained by NewdayReporters revealed that the governor has instructed party stakeholders at various local government levels to nominate three individuals for the position of TC Chairman of the Local Government.
This directive comes after another circular, also seen by NewdayReporters, instructed party stakeholders at the ward level to nominate candidates for the position of councilor.
