An unnamed Police Inspector allegedly severed his wife’s hand following a dispute over N20,000 at their residence in the Dong area of Jos North local government area, Plateau State.
According to reports, the Inspector had left the money at home and when he returned to retrieve it, a disagreement erupted between him and his wife.
Confirming the incident, the Plateau State Police Command revealed that the suspect had been apprehended, and an investigation was underway.
DSP Alfred Alabo, the Police Spokesman, stated, “We are aware of the incident. The man is an Inspector. Currently, he is being held at the State CID, and the investigation is ongoing.”
Explaining the incident further, DSP Alabo said, “He had a minor disagreement with his wife over some money. They argued over N20,000 he had kept at home, intending to use it for something. The argument escalated, leading to violence.”
The injured woman, who is pregnant, has been hospitalized. A neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed, “The wife refused to give the man N3,000 from the N20,000, sparking a heated argument. Suddenly, the man cut off her hand.
The reason behind his actions remains unclear, but our primary concern is for her well-being, and she was promptly rushed to the hospital.”
