Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has condemned the recent attack in Nimbo that led to the death of four residents, labeling it unacceptable and vowing to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The attack, which occurred late Sunday evening, resulted in the deaths of four people, with many others sustaining critical injuries.
Governor Mbah, during his visit to the Nimbo community on Monday, expressed his outrage, accompanied by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu; State Director of the Department of State Services, Theresa Egbunu; Garrison Commander of the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Brigadier General Murtala Abu; and Coordinator of Enugu State Forest Guards, Matthew Obodoechi.
He assured the community that the government would collaborate with community and security stakeholders to enhance security not only in Nimbo but also throughout the entire Uzo Uwani Local Government Area.
Mbah promised, “Enough is enough. I don’t think that we would allow our hospitality to be taken for granted. We expect people who have come to mingle with us to also abide by the rules and laws of our land.”
He further stated, “We are truly pained by such dastardly killing by people who trespass, come into the locality of our people, who are living quietly within their environment, and open fire on them.
That is inexcusable and unacceptable, and we are going to identify, track these culprits, pursue them wherever they are, capture them, and ensure that we bring them to justice.”
Governor Mbah also addressed the bereaved families, promising to take care of the victims’ medical expenses and support their families.
He assured the community that the government would work on their recommendations, including representation in government and strengthening local security resources.
In response, the President-General of Nimbo, Mr. Clement Akachukwu, thanked Governor Mbah for his prompt response and called for the strengthening of the Nimbo Neighbourhood Watch and Forest Guards.
He emphasized the need for the community to be included in government appointments and urged for increased support to local vigilantes to enhance security in the area.
