On Sunday, April 28, 2024, tragedy struck on the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State, as a fatal auto crash claimed the lives of nineteen individuals.
According to Jonas Agwu, the corps education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident occurred at the Okene bypass and involved two vehicles: a truck and a Toyota Hiace bus originating from Kano State.
The collision between the two vehicles resulted in a devastating fire inferno, burning the victims to death.
Among the twenty-two individuals involved, all were male. Nineteen lost their lives, one sustained injuries, and two were rescued unhurt by FRSC operatives.
The deceased victims were taken to Okene General Hospital, where their bodies were deposited.
