In the recently concluded local government elections in Oyo State, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in all 33 Local Government Areas.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) announced the results amidst controversies surrounding irregularities during the voting process.

The results were declared at the Conference Hall of the OYSIEC in Agodi, Ibadan.

Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, the Chairman of OYSIEC, affirmed the results and declared the PDP as the winner after presenting the results from all 33 local government areas where elections took place.

However, there have been complaints from several local government areas regarding discrepancies noticed during the electoral process.

These discrepancies range from the lateness of materials and personnel to the non-availability of necessary materials in some areas.

Allegations suggest that elections did not take place in some wards, particularly in Ibadan North, Ibadan South West, and some parts of Saki in the Oke Ogun axis of the state, among others.

While expressing gratitude to all electoral officers, party agents, and security agents who participated in the process, Olagunju acknowledged the need for improvement, noting that a detailed report of the election would be presented to the state government as soon as it is ready.

In response to the election, the African Action Congress (AAC) expressed its displeasure with the conduct of the local government elections and called for its cancellation.

Fẹmi Adeyeye, the National Publicity Secretary of AAC, alleged that the Oyo State government did not conduct a credible election.

He further called on security agents to release the State Chairman and another member who were arrested during the election period.
