Netizens have been praising Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts in promoting technology, ICT, and innovation in Anambra State. This recognition comes as girls from St. John Vianney Science College, Igbariam, Anambra State, achieved a remarkable feat by winning the National Girls in ICT Competition 2024.
The competition, organized by the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, aims to foster technology innovation among secondary school girls across Nigeria.
The winning project, M-Tag VR, developed by students Immaculate Ikegwuonu, Camilla Anyadike, and Nweke-Nonso Oluchi, under the guidance of their coach, John Onuigbo, allows users to explore iconic Nigerian landmarks such as Zuma Rock and learn about the cultural aspects of Nigerian tribes using virtual reality technology.
The journey to victory began at the state level, where the girls emerged victorious in the Anambra State competition. They then proceeded to win the South-Eastern regional championship, triumphing over teams from Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, and Enugu states, before clinching the national title.
According to the organizers, the girls impressed the judges with their exceptional project and skills, standing out among strong contenders from all 36 states of the federation and showcasing their technical prowess and innovation.
Immaculate Ikegwuonu, one of the winning team members, expressed her excitement, saying, “We are so grateful for this opportunity! Thanks to our school which motivates us to pursue careers in ICT. Through this win, we hope to inspire other girls to do the same.”
Reacting to the win, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebubemuonso), the Director of St. John Vianney Science College, expressed immense pride, stating, “This national championship is a monumental achievement for our school and a source of immense pride.
