Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, recently highlighted that the Federal Government is currently spending more on fuel subsidy than in the past.
He made these remarks during a workshop in Maiduguri, emphasizing that many are unaware of this subsidy. El-Rufai expressed his support for the policy, acknowledging the necessity of subsidy withdrawal initially but recognizing the challenges encountered during implementation, leading to its reinstatement.
He emphasized the importance of pragmatic leadership, urging a willingness to modify policies when necessary.
Additionally, El-Rufai cautioned against premature judgments of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, noting that it’s only been in office for nine months.
He emphasized that leadership is an evolving process and urged Nigerians to pray for their leaders. Meanwhile, President Tinubu, on his inauguration day, affirmed the removal of fuel subsidy, citing its unsustainable cost to the nation’s economy.
He stressed that the funds saved would be redirected to critical sectors such as healthcare, transportation, education, housing, and national security, rather than benefiting a privileged few.
