Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has initiated a significant environmental endeavor, partnering with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), to plant three million trees throughout the state’s 44 local government areas.
The governor personally inaugurated the initiative during a ceremonial event held on Sunday, symbolically planting a tree near the Government House along the State Road.
Highlighting the importance of the project, Governor Yusuf emphasized the strategic placement of trees along major roads in urban areas, aiming to enhance the green landscape and combat environmental challenges.
He called upon residents to actively participate by planting trees in their homes, along roadsides, and in other suitable locations.
The distribution of three million seedlings across all local government areas underscores the scale of the endeavor, with a substantial portion, approximately 1.2 million seedlings, designated for planting along main streets in urban centers.
The governor’s message emphasizes community engagement and collective action to ensure the success of the tree planting campaign.
Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, the Project Coordinator, emphasized the project’s primary objective: addressing the pressing issue of climate change, particularly the adverse effects of excessive heat experienced in the state.
By strategically planting trees, the initiative aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change and foster environmental resilience across Kano State.
