I Will Not Engage In Any Power Tussles With Obaseki — Edo New Deputy Governor, Omobayo Godwins Vows

The newly inaugurated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Omobayo Godwins, has affirmed his unwavering loyalty to Governor Godwin Obaseki, emphasizing his commitment to avoiding power struggles with his superior.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Godwins emphasized his willingness to abide by the directives of Governor Obaseki, acknowledging his own political learning curve while expressing readiness to execute tasks assigned by his principal.

At 37 years old, Godwins acknowledged his political ascent and expressed contentment with his current position as deputy governor, stating that he’s in no hurry to engage in any power tussles with Governor Obaseki.

Additionally, he highlighted his grassroots support from Akoko Edo, underscoring his potential to bolster the electoral chances of other candidates, particularly Ighodalo, from Edo Central Senatorial District.

Regarding the impeachment of his predecessor, Shaibu, Godwins characterized it as a political maneuver, stressing the paramount importance of loyalty in politics.

Meanwhile, Shaibu condemned his impeachment, denouncing it as an affront to democracy and attributing it to his gubernatorial ambitions under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The rift between Obaseki and Shaibu had been simmering for a while, with allegations of subversion and counter-accusations of instigating political unrest.

Shaibu’s bid for the PDP gubernatorial ticket further exacerbated the discord, culminating in his impeachment on April 8, 2024, marking the end of his tenure as deputy governor.
