Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, has urged Muslim believers to utilize the opportunity presented by the Sallah celebration to beseech Allah’s assistance in addressing Nigeria’s pressing security issues.
This call to action was conveyed through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, on Tuesday in Onitsha.
Obi emphasized the importance of maintaining a spirit of love and peaceful coexistence amidst the prevailing challenges facing the nation.
He encouraged people not to allow these challenges to dampen their sense of unity and harmony.
Furthermore, Obi underscored the significance of the Eid-el-fitr festivities in fostering unity and promoting virtues such as love, patriotism, and unity for the advancement of the nation. He stressed the need for both Christians and Muslims, emerging from their fasting periods, to let the solemnity of the holy months guide their interactions and collective vision for the country’s future.
Given the dire state of Nigeria’s economy, characterized by severe stress, currency depreciation, escalating unemployment, and inflation, Obi highlighted the necessity for intensified prayers for divine intervention to navigate these challenging times.
Despite the current difficulties, Obi urged people not to lose hope and to recognize the profound meaning and significance of the festivities, which are associated with divine succor.
He expressed optimism that a brighter future for Nigeria is attainable, emphasizing that there is light at the end of every tunnel and that a New Nigeria is within reach.
