During the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed his desire to see more young people actively participating in the church, envisioning a future where youths outnumber elders, ensuring the church’s vitality and continuity.
He praised the Diocese for its efforts in spreading the word of God and emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation’s involvement in the church’s mission.
Akpabio highlighted the blessings bestowed upon the Diocese over the past six decades, including his own journey from ambassadorship to governorship and now as the third-ranking official in Nigeria. He credited these achievements to divine intervention and expressed gratitude for the growth and accomplishments of the Diocese, such as the establishment of schools and organizations within its domain.
Accompanied by his wife, Unoma, and other dignitaries, Akpabio unveiled plans to support the future aspirations of the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, including investments in the Catholic Pastoral Training Centre in Nko, Obot Akara LGA.
He pledged to send engineers to fence the center and improve infrastructure, underscoring his commitment to transforming lives within the community.
The event, attended by Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno and other prominent figures, concluded with the presentation of award plaques to Akpabio and his wife, acknowledging their contributions to the Diocese and the broader community.
