Renowned Nigerian comedian, Ayo Makun, commonly known as AY, and his wife Mabel, have announced their separation after two decades of what he describes as “friendship/marriage.”
AY confirmed this development through a heartfelt Instagram post on Sunday, where he expressed his decision to no longer share deep personal family issues with the public.
He emphasized the importance of protecting his grown-up daughter’s mental health from potentially distressing online content.
Despite admitting to actions he’s not proud of, he highlighted the complexity of assigning blame in a societal landscape that often portrays women as victims. AY also touched on the proliferation of falsehoods in media coverage, expressing confidence that his truth will eventually prevail over the lies.
Similarly, Mabel, in her own Instagram post on the same day, conveyed her response to disrespect by opting for distance rather than engaging in drama or arguments.
AY and Mabel tied the knot in November 2008 and are parents to two children.
