Recall that last week, NewdayReporters reported an interview with APGA National Chairman, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, where the party leader advised the president to adopt State policing as an approach to tackle insecurity in the country.

Today, following the call for the establishment of State Police by opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance, the president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during an emergency meeting with State Governors on security and economy, announced that the Federal Government will work with the State Governments and Federal House of Assembly to establish State Police, to help tackle insecurity in the country.

According to Tinubu,  the Federal Government will work with the governors of the 36 states and the National Assembly towards putting in place a mechanism that will engender state police instead of the vigilantes that are being used in some states.

Still on security, the President charged the Governors to strengthen their Forest Rangers and arm them to keep all the forest safe from criminals.

He added that, Modalities for State Police and addressing security issues will be discussed further at National Economic Council.

Meanwhile, speaking on rising cost of food, the president directed that the State Governments and Federal government should collaborate to increase local food production. The President advised against the idea of food importation and price control when local food producers should be encouraged to produce more food.
