The SUG President of Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze, Chinedu Onwuadike has earlier this week supervised palliative distribution to students of the institution.
The event which as reported by NewdayReporters was described by students as the first intervention of any kind to the student community in the school.
Comrade Onwuadike while speaking to reporters said that he was moved by the sufferings the students were passing through, he said that his intervention was to mitigate the effects of the harsh economic realities of the country on the students.
According to him, “We heard the cries of the student, as a responsive leader, I was moved and had to quickly think of something. You may be shocked if we tell you that this was not sponsored from the unions purse. It is just my little way of saying to my students that, ‘I understand your plight, I feel for you and I know what you are passing through’.
“We are still discussing with other union leaders, to figure out what exactly we need to do as a Union to know how we can make life easy for our students.” He concluded.
The President also said that this is not the only measure he had taken to help the students deal with the harsh economic situation of the country, he said that every tuesday of the week, his administration provides free buses to convey students within the campuses.
It can be recalled that, the SUG under the leadership of Comrade Onwuadike, had earlier conducted a hitch free Students Week which was adjudged by students and observers as the best in the institution’s history.
