The acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has applauded the steady drop in crime rate in the “Ember months” while assuring voters in the Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi governorship elections of necessary deployments and security measures for a safe environment.
Egbetokun stated this on Thursday during a meeting with Strategic Police Managers, including Deputy Inspectors-General of Police and members of the Force Management Team, to review the security situation and discuss key security issues.
The IGP stated that the meeting was scheduled to address the “Ember months”, which have historically been marked by increased activity and security concerns.
During the discussion, Egbetokun praised the devotion and hard efforts of police personnel, as well as the steadfast support of the government and the public, all of which have contributed to a significant decrease in crime rates across the country.
The IGP, upon decorating a newly promoted Senior Police Officer, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Bello Makwashi, acknowledged the critical role of police officers and relevant stakeholders in maintaining law and order.
He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, noting that collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders proved instrumental in achieving positive anti-crime results.
Addressing the upcoming off-season gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, the IGP informed the people that necessary deployments and security measures will be put in place to ensure a climate in which every qualified voter may fulfil their civic duty without fear or intimidation.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting democratic norms and ensuring peaceful, free, and fair elections.
Egbetokun asked all stakeholders to collaborate and assist police efforts to keep these states safe and secure before, during, and after the election periods.
While highlighting the importance of effective and efficient policing, the IGP urged the people to continue partnering with the Force through timely information and vigilance for a peaceful, successful, and progressive Nigeria throughout the Ember Months.
