Breaking: New Governor Umar Bago Dissolves Niger State Electoral Commission

Umar Bago, governor of Niger State, has ordered the dissolution of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).

Bago disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by Abubakar Usman, secretary to the state government.

He said the dissolution of SIEC members was effective from May 29, 2023.

“Members of the commission were directed to hand over all property of the state government in their possession to the most senior director in the commission with immediate effect,” the statement reads.

The governor recently appointed a new secretary to the state government (SSG), chief of staff, deputy chief of staff and head of service.

It can be recalled that on March 18, Bago, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was elected governor of Niger with 469,896 votes.
