South-East Elders in Nsukka Endorse Tinubu for 2027, Demand State Creation and Economic Reforms

A political support group operating under the banner of the South-East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027, Enugu North Senatorial District chapter, has officially declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. The declaration was made during the group’s inauguration ceremony held in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Wednesday.

In a communique issued at the end of the event and signed by key members of the group, the elders highlighted the substantial benefits the South-East geopolitical zone has received under President Tinubu’s leadership. They emphasized that several strategic appointments of sons and daughters from the region into influential positions are clear indicators of the President’s commitment to inclusivity and development in the South-East.

Signatories to the communique include Hon. Humphrey Nsofor (National Coordinator, South-East), Prof. Damian Opata (Deputy National Coordinator), Prof. Chuka Ezema (Coordinator, Strategy, Enugu North Senatorial District), and Dr. Anthony Alumona (Coordinator, Administration, Enugu North Senatorial District).

The group specifically praised appointments such as:

Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (Chief of the Naval Staff),

Frank Mba (Deputy Inspector General of Police),

Prof. Melvin D. Ayogu (Board Member, Central Bank of Nigeria),

Prof. Iliyasu Usman (First Igbo Imam of the Central Mosque, Abuja),

Dr. Amaka Onu (Board Member, Federal Polytechnic, Jigawa),

Hon. Favour Nkem Asogwa (Board Member, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede),

Chief Eva Asadu (Board Member, Anambra Imo River Basin Authority), and

Major General E. I. Okoro (Military Secretary, Nigerian Army).

According to the communique, these appointments, particularly of Nsukka Igbo extraction, represent an unprecedented level of federal recognition for the Enugu North Senatorial District, making it “the best era” for the zone in terms of political inclusion at the national level.

The group called on President Tinubu to initiate and forward an Executive Bill to the National Assembly seeking constitutional amendments for the creation of new states. They argued that such a move would be historic, making him the first civilian president under whom new states were created.

Additionally, the elders expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s harsh economic climate. They urged the President to implement measures aimed at perfecting the fuel subsidy programme, stabilizing the naira exchange rate, reducing fuel costs, and tackling rising food inflation.

On the issue of national security, the group proposed the establishment of a Digital Response Arm within Nigeria’s security architecture. This unit, they suggested, should be composed of the country’s tech-savvy population to effectively address the escalating insecurity using digital tools and intelligence.

They concluded by encouraging Nigerians across all regions to support President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, stating that his continued leadership would help complete the southern presidential mandate and potentially ease political tensions over presidential zoning.

“Mr. President, may the Almighty God continue to guide your administration in the right direction,” the communique concluded.
