President Tinubu, Peter Obi Pay Tribute to Late Diamond Bank Founder Pascal Dozie a Renowned Nigeria Banker And Enterpreneur

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have expressed profound grief over the passing of renowned Nigerian banker, entrepreneur, and elder statesman, Pascal Dozie, who died at the age of 85.

In a statement issued by the State House on Tuesday, President Tinubu praised Dozie as a visionary and principled leader whose impact on Nigeria’s economic and corporate landscape remains indelible. He described Dozie as “a rare breed business leader whose wisdom, humility, and pioneering efforts laid a foundation upon which many continue to build.”

Tinubu highlighted Dozie’s legacy as the founder of Diamond Bank and the pioneer chairman of MTN Nigeria. He credited Dozie with playing a pivotal role in the transformation of Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications sectors—two critical industries that have since become pillars of national development.

“His contributions to Nigeria’s economic architecture left an enduring legacy,” the President noted, emphasizing that Dozie’s leadership went beyond boardrooms and corporate offices to significant national roles. Dozie had previously served as a director of the Central Bank of Nigeria, President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.

President Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and called on Nigeria’s private sector to honor Dozie’s legacy by upholding the principles of integrity, innovation, and dedication to nation-building. He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the late businessman’s soul.

Joining in the outpouring of tributes, Peter Obi shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), describing Dozie as a man he deeply respected and admired. Obi recalled his early interactions with Dozie during the establishment of Diamond Bank and later during the formation of MTN Nigeria.

“I came to know him as a true gentleman and a teacher who always sought the good of all,” Obi wrote.

Reflecting on the far-reaching influence of Dozie’s work, Obi emphasized his legacy as a banker and entrepreneur who exemplified excellence and inspired generations of leaders and businesses.

He concluded his tribute with prayers for comfort for the family and all those affected by the loss. “May God Almighty, who called him home, grant him eternal rest in His kingdom, and grant his family and all of us who mourn him the fortitude to bear his irreplaceable loss,” Obi stated.
