The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of 11 individuals from an illegal baby factory and the arrest of three suspects linked to the operation in the Ijegun area of the state. In a separate operation, officers also rescued two kidnapping victims in Ikorodu, demonstrating the command’s ongoing commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.
Baby Factory Busted in Ijegun: 11 Victims Freed, Three Suspects in Custody
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the baby factory was uncovered on April 5, 2025, following credible intelligence received by the command. Acting swiftly, police detectives were mobilized to the scene in Ijegun, where they apprehended the suspected operator of the illegal facility, 35-year-old Mariam Vincent. Her alleged accomplices, Orie Ruth (23) and Ujunwa Ifeanyi (18), were also arrested during the operation.
During the raid, officers discovered and rescued a total of 10 individuals being held against their will, including seven adult women and three children. The adult victims were identified as Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26). The children rescued were Destiny, a 7-year-old boy; Miracle, a 5-year-old girl; and Success, a 2-year-old girl.
Police revealed that the victims are currently receiving proper medical attention and psychosocial support. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to abducting their victims from different locations across Lagos State for the purpose of operating the baby factory. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be charged in court soon.
Broader Crackdown on Crime: 39 Suspects Arrested in Two Weeks
SP Hundeyin also provided a broader overview of the police command’s activities over the past two weeks. He disclosed that a total of 39 individuals were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, child theft, and vandalism, to illegal possession of firearms, illicit drugs, and the operation of baby factories.
Ikorodu Kidnapping Foiled: Two Victims Rescued After Three-Day Manhunt
In a related development, officers of the Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with a joint task force and community stakeholders, successfully rescued two victims who were kidnapped by gunmen in the Igbe Alagemo area of Ijede, Ikorodu.
The kidnapping occurred on the night of March 26, 2025, when armed assailants invaded the residence of a 40-year-old man named Dare. The attackers fatally shot his security dog before abducting him. They then proceeded to a nearby house, where they forcefully took 25-year-old Rodiat as a second victim.
Following a distress call received around 9 p.m. on the night of the incident, police launched a coordinated manhunt. The operation culminated in the safe rescue of both victims at about 11:56 p.m. on March 29. The victims have since been reunited with their families, and investigations are underway to apprehend the culprits.
The Lagos Police Command reassured the public of its ongoing surveillance and dedication to combating all forms of crime in the state.
