The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Comrade Julius Abure, has firmly stated that the leadership of the party remains intact and that any claim suggesting a leadership vacuum is entirely baseless and invalid.
Speaking during the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, on Monday, Abure clarified that the current leadership, under his watch, remains legitimate and recognized by the law.
He emphasized that the Supreme Court never ruled that the tenure of the existing National Working Committee (NWC), led by him, has come to an end. According to him, “There is no vacuum in the leadership of the Labour Party. The Supreme Court judgement did not say the tenure of the current NWC under my leadership has expired.”
Abure went on to dismiss the formation of a supposed National Caretaker Committee, labeling it as unlawful and not recognized by any of the party’s guiding principles or legal frameworks. He insisted that the gathering in Umuahia, Abia State, which allegedly produced the caretaker committee, did not constitute a legitimate NEC meeting.
“What happened in Umuahia, Abia State, was not a NEC meeting; as such, the so-called caretaker committee is an illegal entity,” Abure declared.
He concluded by accusing the group behind the caretaker committee of being disruptive elements, stating, “The purported caretaker committee is just a meddlesome interloper whose sole purpose is to destroy our party.”
