Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has once again come under attack as armed men invaded several communities, resulting in the deaths of at least ten people. The assault, which took place on the night of Wednesday, April 2, was confirmed by stakeholders in the affected communities.
Although the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Safe Haven are yet to officially respond to the latest violence, Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), confirmed the tragic incident to Vanguard. According to Fuddang, the attackers initially struck Mongor but were confronted and repelled by security forces. However, undeterred, the assailants regrouped and moved on to attack other communities, including Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai.
This attack comes just days after a similar assault in the Ruwi community, where gunmen stormed a wake-keeping ceremony, killing ten people and leaving three others injured. The resurgence of violence has plunged the area into heightened insecurity, raising concerns among residents and local authorities.
Speaking on the latest incident, Fuddang lamented the devastating loss, stating:
“In just one week, we have lost over 20 members of our community to these relentless terrorist attacks. On April 2 alone, more than ten people were killed. We deeply appreciate the swift response of the Nigerian military and police, which helped prevent even more casualties.”
He further called on humanitarian agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the Nigerian Red Cross to provide urgent relief to those affected, particularly the displaced and injured victims.
With the escalating violence in Bokkos LGA, community leaders and residents are appealing to security forces for enhanced protection and long-term solutions to curb these frequent and devastating attacks.
