President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially assented to the South-West Development Commission Bill, the South-South Development Commission Bill, and the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025.
This development was announced in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado, who emphasized that these legislative actions underscore Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance, balanced development across Nigeria’s regions, and the nation’s positioning as a global economic and sports powerhouse.
According to Lado, the establishment of the South-West and South-South Development Commissions highlights Tinubu’s transformative leadership, which prioritizes regional empowerment, economic advancement, and infrastructural development.
PHe pointed out that these new commissions would serve as strategic drivers of industrial growth, employment generation, and overall social progress, ensuring that all regions in Nigeria benefit from the administration’s forward-thinking policies.
Furthermore, Lado noted that this move builds upon Tinubu’s previous endorsement of similar development commissions for the South-East and North-Central regions, demonstrating his deliberate and structured approach to fostering regional development nationwide.
In addition to the development commission bills, President Tinubu also signed the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025, into law. This legislation, according to Lado, reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to upholding fairness, excellence, and integrity in international sports.
By domesticating the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sports, the new law aims to protect Nigerian athletes from unfair practices, ensuring they compete on a level playing field while safeguarding the country’s reputation as a nation that values integrity in sports.
These legislative enactments, Lado concluded, reflect President Tinubu’s dedication to progressive governance, economic transformation, and Nigeria’s sustained prominence on the global stage.
