EID-EL-FITR: Declares March 31 And April 1 Public Holidays For Nigerians

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-el-Fitr festival.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

In his statement, the Minister extended warm congratulations to all Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, a period dedicated to fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.

Tunji-Ojo urged the Muslim community to uphold and embody the core virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace, which are essential teachings of Islam. He emphasized that the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr should serve as a reminder of the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in fostering a harmonious and united society.

Furthermore, he encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of the festive season to offer prayers for the peace, stability, and prosperity of the nation. According to him, national unity and cooperation among different religious and ethnic groups are essential for the country’s progress.

The Minister also advised citizens to observe the celebrations safely and responsibly, while extending kindness and charity to the less privileged, in line with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr.

On behalf of the Federal Government, Tunji-Ojo conveyed heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslims in Nigeria, expressing hope that the blessings of the season would bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to every citizen.
