A 37-year-old woman, Linda Stephen, has approached a Kaduna Customary Court, seeking a divorce from her husband, Felix Stephen, due to what she describes as his excessive sexual demands.
Wife’s Complaint
In her petition, Mrs. Stephen, who resides in Ungwan Sunday, Kaduna, revealed that her husband not only pressures her for sex frequently but also resorts to physical violence whenever she refuses his advances. The couple has been married for six years, but she stated that she can no longer cope with his insatiable desire for sex.
“I plead with the court to dissolve this marriage because I can no longer endure his excessive sexual urges. He wants sex all the time, and I simply cannot bear it anymore,” she lamented.
She further narrated how her husband engages in intercourse with her from midnight till the early hours of the morning, even when she is in pain and crying.
“It has been three months since I moved out of his house. His relatives have been begging me to return to him, but they do not understand what I have been going through,” she said.
Linda also accused her husband of being unable to control his sexual urges and resorting to domestic violence whenever she denied him sex. According to her, he has beaten her multiple times, even in the presence of their two children.
Husband’s Plea for Reconciliation
In response to the allegations, Felix Stephen admitted that he is deeply in love with his wife and does not want their marriage to end.
He pleaded with the court to intervene on his behalf and convince his wife to reconsider her decision. Felix acknowledged that he has been pleading with her not to pursue a divorce and assured the court that he is now willing to control his sexual urges.
“I have taken my uncles and friends to her parents’ house to apologize and beg her to return home, but she refused to listen. Instead, she walked out on us,” he told the court.
Court’s Decision
After listening to both parties, the presiding judge, John Dauda, decided to adjourn the case until May 6. He explained that this would allow time for the couple to attempt reconciliation and report back on the outcome. In the meantime, the judge advised them to maintain peace.
