Ekiti Governor Warns Commissioners and MDAs Against Wasteful Spending On Conferences

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has issued a stern warning to Commissioners and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state, urging them to put an end to unnecessary expenditures on unproductive workshops, seminars, and conferences.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday during the commissioning of motorcycles and other essential items at a program organized by the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), Oyebanji expressed strong displeasure over the financial mismanagement by some government officials.

He criticized the continuous approval requests from MDAs and Commissioners for questionable workshops and conferences, emphasizing that such expenditures do not align with the government’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens.

The governor called for a shift in focus, urging officials to redirect public funds toward impactful projects and initiatives that would genuinely benefit the people of Ekiti State.

“My repeated calls for fiscal discipline have been largely ignored. I still receive requests from MDAs through Commissioners for dubious workshops, seminars, and other expenditures that only serve to drain government resources,” Oyebanji stated.

He further expressed disappointment that despite his previous warnings, such requests persist, admitting that while he has approved some to maintain harmony, it deeply concerns him.

“I feel bad when Commissioners submit such requests. Sometimes, I approve them just to keep people happy, but it pains me when I see funds being channeled into unproductive ventures,” he added.

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent financial management and urged officials to prioritize projects that will contribute to the overall development of the state rather than waste resources on unnecessary gatherings.
