You Have Not Disappointed Nigerians – Lagos Chief Imam Tells Tinubu

On Friday, December 27, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu participated in the Jumat prayer at the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos, joining the Muslim faithful in worship. This marked the President’s first public appearance since attending prayers at the Alausa Central Mosque the previous Friday.

During the service, the Chief Imam of Lagos Central Mosque, Sheikh Ridhwan Jamiu, delivered a sermon emphasizing gratitude to Allah in times of prosperity and patience during moments of adversity. The Imam highlighted the importance of unwavering faith and hope as fundamental virtues for believers, particularly in challenging times.

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed that the Imam offered prayers for President Tinubu’s success in steering Nigeria toward peace, security, and prosperity. Sheikh Jamiu also assured the President of the continuous prayers and support of the Muslim Ummah throughout his tenure.

“We are proud of you. During the campaigns, we encouraged people to vote for you, and we thank Allah that you have not disappointed us,” the Imam said. “We know you are capable, sagacious, and competent. We believe and pray that you will not disappoint us. May Allah continue to guide and support you. Allah has entrusted Nigeria to your care and will hold you accountable for this trust.”

The Imam reminded the President of his dual responsibility to the people and to Allah and quoted the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who said, “The most beloved of all people to Allah is the righteous and just leader.” He praised the President’s past demonstrations of righteousness, fairness, and justice, urging him to uphold these values. He added, “Your name, Ahmed, one of the names of the Prophet Muhammad, signifies one who is praiseworthy. This has been evident in your past actions, and we pray it continues in your leadership.”

President Tinubu is currently spending the festive season in Lagos State, where he arrived on December 18 after presenting the 2025 budget to the National Assembly. In light of recent tragedies, including stampedes in Oyo and Anambra States, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which resulted in loss of lives, the President canceled public engagements in Lagos last Saturday, including a scheduled boat regatta.

On December 23, the President hosted the first Presidential Media Chat at his Oyinkan Abayomi Drive residence in Ikoyi. As part of the holiday festivities, he has been receiving private visitors daily, reflecting his commitment to maintaining a connection with Nigerians during the festive season.
