Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District and serving as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration plans to leverage advanced technology to address Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.
Speaking on Wednesday, Ibrahim stated that the government is prioritizing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of its security strategy in 2025. This initiative is reflected in the ₦4.91 trillion allocated to defence and security in Tinubu’s 2025 budget proposal.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ibrahim disclosed that the government intends to develop applications that can track and monitor criminal activities, specifically targeting bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists. He emphasized that AI would enhance the efficiency of security personnel, making it increasingly difficult for criminals to operate.
He described the upcoming year as a challenging one for those involved in criminal activities, thanks to these technological interventions.
Earlier that day, President Tinubu presented the ₦49.7 trillion 2025 Budget Proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly, highlighting key allocations to various sectors. Defence and security received the highest allocation of ₦4.91 trillion, followed by infrastructure at ₦4.06 trillion, education at ₦3.5 trillion, and health at ₦2.4 trillion, among others.
Ibrahim argued that the significant investment in security would not only enhance safety but also positively impact the nation’s economy. He explained that improved security would allow Nigeria to produce more crude oil, thereby increasing revenue. According to him, spending ₦5 trillion on security would lead to greater peace and stability, which, in turn, would facilitate economic growth.
Additionally, the senator noted improvements in Nigeria’s security situation under the current administration. He claimed that no town or city in the country remains under the control of Boko Haram terrorists, attributing this progress to the efforts of the nation’s security forces.
Ibrahim commended President Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the administration has successfully raised the country’s security index. He asserted that this enhanced security environment creates opportunities for increased economic productivity and development.
